Family, Fun, & Food in New Braunfels, TX
Every October, since I can remember, my grandfather's family has had a family reunion in the Texas Hill Country. It's been in different cities over the decades, but the reason for our get togethers has always stayed the same - family. And when I say family, I should probably say FAMILY because it is quite the group! My grandfather was one of 11 children. That makes for a lot of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren! People come from California, Arizona, you name it, just to catch up with everyone. It's a weekend filled with domino tournaments, talent shows, live auctions, practical jokes, and everything in between. We are a loud, opinionated, and crazy bunch and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Saturday mornings are always for exploring. There's nothing planned on the itinerary until lunch, so you can choose to sleep in or go see the sights. I always choose the latter. The Texas Hill Country has tons of options nearby. There's shopping at Wimberly Market Days, Gruene, Natural Bridge Caverns, San Marcos Outlets, and something new I tried this year - exploring New Braunsfels and the New Braunfels Farmer's Market.
The farmer's market was a hit! It wasn't huge - maybe 40 vendor stalls, but it had every homegrown and tasty thing you could ever want. There's also a band that plays and the event is super dog friendly. One thing I also liked was that the vendors weren't super pushy. I hate that. The next time you're in the area on Saturday, I highly recommend you check it out!
