Flamingos & Pineapples - A Baby Shower for Sweet Caroline
It's party time! Welcoming a new baby into the world is always reason to celebrate! Here's a little looksee into how we pulled off this summer themed baby shower during the winter!
Mimosa Bar. This fun drink option had all of the guests experimenting with flavors and sipping champagne out of pink flamingo straws. What fun!
Food. I am a big proponent of food not being boring and being a part of the experience - which is why I made these sugary doughnut pineapples. They were as easy as can be to make too. I got edible sugar paper, cut pineapple tops out of it, and then put the tops down into a Shipley's doughnut. So easy and so festive!
Games. Of course at baby showers, you have to have games...so we had three. First up, we had guess how many diapers were in the diaper cake (made by bestie Amanda). Spoiler alert: there were 63.
Next, we had the guests play "guess the sweet mess". If you're not familiar with this game, we melted a different candy bar in 6 separate diapers and asked the guests if they knew what each "mess" flavor was. Even though I knew they were all candy bars, it still grosses me out. And I loved watching the reactions of the people too. Smell them and making stinky poo faces at them. They really did look realistic!
Our last game was after the older folks left. We made a special version of Head's Up with all pregnancy and baby type items. It was hilarious!
Advice. These are always nice to look back on. It's especially helpful to have those nuggets of wisdom when you're a new parent and are feeling overwhelmed.
Decor. The theme for this party waspink flamingos and pineapples with mint and coral colors. You would not believe how hard it is to find mint and coral colored anything in the middle of winter! Did I mention it was 27 degrees in Houston the day of the baby shower? Yikes! But we were able to pull it off.
Guess Her Birthday. This could totally turn into a birth date pool, but we chose to leave it where the winner would just have bragging rights. It was fun to see who though baby Caroline would make an appearance early and who thought she would be born 2 weeks after her due date (those mean people!). Only time will tell I guess.
This baby shower was so much fun to plan and I hope that I've inspired you to think outside the box in planning your next event!
