Friendship & Places to Take Photos in Galveston, TX (Murals, History, and Everything In Between)
Unexpected friendships are the best, aren't they? I met Lauren (Toast From the Host) a little over a year ago and we've pretty much been inseparable ever since! We feed off of each other's creativity and we have the same crazy work ethic (we are ALWAYS working). So in trying to relax a little, we decided to spend the day in Galveston. I left my camera at home (so all these photos are iPhone photos) and we just ate, explored, ate, walked around, and ate some more. We love our food :)
So if you're looking for a few photo-worthy places to visit when in Galveston, TX, here's some great places to start.
Galveston's graffiti scene is growing by leaps and bounds lately! Especially with the addition of the Galveston Kindness Project's two full blocks of different murals by local artists at Clay Cup Studios (22nd & Post Office). The last few photos are also in the area - just down an alleyway near there.
Maceo Spice & Import Company (27th & Market) also has this super cool wall with an intricate geometric design on it, if that's more your style.
Galveston's historic strand district (23rd & Strand) is such a great place to grab a bite to eat, take a stroll, stop in some local shops, and get some sight-seeing in. Here's a few places you might like to stop.
Time To Eat
Let's face it - it wouldn't a Hurried Hostess post without something about food in it - and when Lauren and I get together - we eat! There are so many places I love to chow down at in Galveston, but here's the places we ate at that day last week.
First up, fish tacos and roasted chicken at Farley Girls Cafe.
Later in the day, we also had a happy hour break at The Spot. This place is cool because it's 5 different venues in one - if you want burgers, you go 'The Spot' and if you want drinks (which, is what we were after) you head to 'Tiki Bar', 'Sideyard', 'Rum Shack', or 'Squeeze'. We opted for the fun and funky, 'Sideyard'. We ate and drank off the happy hour menu - with frozen key lime mojitos, shrimp kisses, and hot wings.
I hope you enjoy your next trip down to Galveston and this helps you find your new favorite spot!
